Pakistani Street Food OutsourcedBooks
Pakistani Cookbook Outsourced is an examination of modern day globalization and its possible ramifications, specifically the cultural and social impacts it has on participating parties. It also looks at how the Internet alters our experiences and engagements with other cultures. Is virtual tourism truly possible? For this project, I have taken a virtual gastronomical journey to Salkot, Pakistan, a place currently closed to tourists due to heightened threats of terrorism. Via a micro-outsourcing website, I found Naiyer, a Pakistani native who helped compile photographs and video of local street food vendors. The resulting book enables a western viewer to become a Desi roadside flâneur something previously impossible.
